The Piano can be a member of the orchestra or a solo instrument. It is one of the favorite solo instruments of all the instruments in the orchestra with works by Beethoven, Brahms, Gershwin, Mozart, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, and many more. Stravinsky's Petrouchka and Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring are excellent examples of compositions where the piano plays a role as an orchestra member.
