Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes for Kids

from the MMF Songbook

About 'Mother Goose'

Mother Goose is the imaginary author of a collection of fairy tales and nursery rhymes that have amused children and adults for generations.

The first appearance of Mother Goose in literature dates back to the early 18th century, with Charles Perrault’s collection of nursery rhymes, Tales of Mother Goose (Paris, 1697). Later Thomas Carnan used the term ‘Mother Goose’ for his compilation of English nursery rhymes, Mother Goose's Melody; or Sonnets for the Cradle (London, 1780). Since then Mother Goose has been cited as the author of hundreds of children’s stories, rhymes and games. However, she is most recognized for her nursery rhymes which have become some of the most loved literature for children.
