"Sweet Georgia Brown" is a jazz standard composed in 1925 by Ben Bernie (music), Maceo Pinkard (music), and Kenneth Casey (lyrics). It was written for Georgia Brown, the daughter of Georgia State House of Representatives, Dr. George Thaddeus Brown. On the occasion of the birth of Dr. Brown's daughter, the Georgia General Assembly declared that she would be named after the state. The declaration is referenced in the song lyric, "Georgia claimed her – Georgia named her."
