About the Composer of "Quasi Adagio"

Bela Bartok (1881-1945) was a Hungarian composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist. He exhibited remarkable musical talent at a very young age. According to his mother, he could discern dance rhythms that she played on the piano before he learned to speak in full sentences. By the age of four he could play 40 pieces on the piano. In 1903, shortly after completing his studies, he and Hungarian composer, Zoltan Kodaly, embarked on a quest to explore and transcribe Hungary's folk music. Eventually, their own musical compositions became infused with the melodic, rhythmic, and textural elements of Hungary's peasant music.
