Georg Philipp Telemann was born March 24, 1681 in Magdeburg in the Holy Roman Empire. As one of the most prolific composers of all time, he wrote as many as 3,000 pieces of music, many of which were destroyed during WWII. He was friends with J. S. Bach and George Frideric Handel, and was godfather to Bach's son, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
