'St. James Infirmary' is a jazz standard recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1928. In 1931, big band leader Cab Callaway adapted the melody for his hit, 'Minnie the Moocher.' The song's lasting popularity prompted another recording in 1994 by the contemporary swing revival band, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Permission granted for instruction, public performance, or just for fun.

At the time of the first printing in 1925, the tune was published as 'Gambler's Blues' by Carl Moore and Phil Baxter. Louis Armstrong's 1928 recording released the song as 'St. James Infirmary,' and credited the song to Joe Primrose. In 1929, Mills Music, Inc. published and promoted the song, assigning authorship to Joe Primrose.
