About the Composer

Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) was born in Ciboure, France. He started taking piano lessons at age seven and began studying composition five years later. At the age of fourteen Ravel enrolled at the Paris Conservatoire, studying composition with Gabriel Fauré. He continued his studies at the Conservatoire into his early 20s, during which time he composed several of his most popular works. Ravel is recognized as a leading French composer, with his best known works being Bolero and Daphnis et Chloé.
