A dactyl is the basic repeating rhythmic unit that is usually two, three, or four syllables in length. Little Poll Parrot is a Mother Goose nursery rhyme that is believed to have originated in the seventeenth century. The earliest known printing was in a 1840s collection by James Orchard Halliwell.
