This lesson will teach you how to play 'Mary at the Kitchen Door', the fourth piece in the MMF! All-In-One Beginner Piano Book.

Let's get started.

The first two measures are made up of four half notes. Half notes get two beats.

Let's try measures 1 and 2 together.

The notes will be played with the left hand. They are G - E - G - E, and they will be played with fingers 1 - 3 - 1 - 3.

They sound like this.

Let's try measures 3 and 4.

In measure 3 the notes are D - D - G - G, and should be played with fingers 4 - 4 - 1 - 1. Every note in this measure is a quarter note. Quarter notes get one beat.

In measure 4 the notes are E - C - C, and should be played with fingers 3 - 5 - 5. The rhythm is quarter note - quarter note - half note. The half note receives two beats. When I play the half note I will say "half-note". Using this phrase will help you to perform this rhythm correctly.
