Chopsticks was composed by sixteen year old British composer Euphemia Allen. She published it originally as "The Celebrated Chop Waltz" under the pseudonym Arthur de Lulli. The title "Chop Waltz" comes from Allen's instructions that the melody be played with both hands held vertically with the little fingers striking the keys in a chopping motion.
